Calculation on command Prompt ! u knew dis???

The command processor CMD.EXE comes with a mini-calculator that can perform simple arithmetic on 32-bit signed integers:

C:\>set /a 2+2
4
C:\>set /a 2*(9/2)
8
C:\>set /a (2*9)/2
9
C:\>set /a "31>>2"
7

Note that we had to quote the shift operator since it would otherwise be misinterpreted as a "redirect stdout and append" operator.

For more information, type set /? at the command prompt.

I forgot my Windows XP login password

I forgot my Windows XP login password

Lost User Passwords. (Windows XP)

If you have lost or forgotten a user account password in Win XP, simply log in as the computer administrator, and go to control panel, user accounts. Here you will be able to reset the password for any of the systems user accounts.

Lost Administrator Password. (Windows XP)

Slightly more work needed if you lose or forget the Windows XP administrator password.

First reboot Windows XP in safe mode by re-starting the computer and pressing F8 repeated as the computer starts up. Then (in safe mode) click Start and then click Run. In the open box type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes - I have just used quotes to differentiate what you have to type.

You will now have access to all the user accounts, including the administrators account and will be able to reset the lost password.

Just click the administrators user account, and then click Reset Password.

You will need to add a new password in the New password and the Confirm new password boxes, and confirm by clicking OK.

All done, you have recovered the lost adminitrators password!

How to Set Security in Windows XP Professional in a Workgroup

How to Set Security in Windows XP Professional in a Workgroup

In Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional, if working in a workgroup, the Security tab is hidden by default. This behavior occurs because in Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional, guests are forced to
log on to a workgroup. To view the Security tab, press CTRL, right-click the file, and then click Properties.

NOTE: Security can only be set in an NTFS partition. If you remove the Everyone group from the NTFS permissions, the file or folder is inaccessible over the network.

When Simple file sharing is enabled, the user is presented with the Simple File Sharing UI rather than the classic "Security" and "Sharing" tabs. This new UI is implemented by default in Windows XP, Windows XP Home Edition, and Windows XP
Professional when working in a workgroup. However, the computer is started in Safe mode, the ACL editor is displayed.

The simplified Sharing UI is different for My Documents and the folders that are located in My Documents. When the My Documents folder is opened, the following options are displayed:

- "Only I have access to this folder"
- "This folder is shared on the network"
-Share name:

- "Allow other users to change my files"
However, when the other folders is opened, the following options are displayed:

- Share name:

- "Allow other users to change my files"

In addition: More Information.
When a user password is created in Control Panel, the "Protect The My Documents Folder" option is displayed. On a Windows XP Professional-based computer, only you can make a registry change to show the classic security UI.

How To Rename a File In Windows !!

How To Rename a File In Windows !!

By default, windows does this stupid thing where it hides a files extension (last three letters) for files where it recognises the extension. This can make it hard for you to change an extension, which you will need to do to use some files. Heres how to change this behaviour so you can change any 'extension' you like

Open an explorer window, and go to 'tools/ folder options' to open a new settings dialouge box.
In the 'view' tab, in the advanced settings window, there is an option 'hide extensions for known file types'. Make sure that is off, then hit the button saying 'apply to all folders'.

All files you look at now, will show their extensions. Simply 'right click' and choose 'rename', to change the extension of a file.

10 Tips for Privacy Online

10 Tips for Privacy Online

1. Look for privacy policies on Web Sites:

Web sites can collect a lot of information about your visit -- what computer you use, what type of hardware and software you have, what Web sites you have visited. Web sites that ask you to provide even a small amount of personal information can tie the data you provide to your browsing habits.

When you go to a Web site that has no privacy policy, write and tell the company that you are a user of their site, your privacy is important to you and you would like to see them post a policy. CDT has developed the Privacy Watchdog site to help you.

An increasing number of Web sites has begun to provide privacy policies that detail the sites' information practices. Look for these policies and read them carefully. While privacy statements are not the only answer to online privacy risks, the effort should be encouraged and commended.

CDT's Web Site Privacy Policies page.

2. Get a separate account for your personal e-mail:

Often, online users do not realize that e-mail sent from their work accounts is likely to be an open book to their employers. Even if you send an e-mail from your home, a copy is often stored on your employer's main computer server. Your boss has a legal right to read any and all correspondence in this account or on your work computer at any time.

Getting a separate account for home allows you to check your personal messages without using your workplace e-mail server. Some private accounts can be configured to enable you to check your personal mail from work without downloading it onto your company computer.

3. Teach your kids that giving out personal information online means giving it to strangers:

Teach your children that they need your permission before they can give out their name, address or other information about themselves or the family.

Several years ago, a number of Web sites encouraged children to give information about themselves or their family; some enticed kids with games and free gifts. In 1998, a law was passed requiring companies to gain parental consent before collecting personal information from children under 13 years old. If you are concerned about a Web site collecting information from children without consent, you should communicate your concern to the Federal Trade Commission at kidsprivacy@ftc.gov.

4. Clear your memory cache after browsing:

After you browse the Web, copies of all accessed pages and images are saved on your computer's memory. While these copies make subsequent visits to the same sites faster, the browsing record has grave implications for personal privacy, particularly if you share a computer or browse at work. You can delete most of your online trail by simply going to the "Preferences" folder in your browser and clicking on the "Empty Cache" button. Sometimes this option is in the "Advanced" menu of the browser preferences. In Internet Explorer, go to "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu and click on "Clear History".

5. Make sure that online forms are secure:

Online forms may be digitally transported in ways that leave them vulnerable to undesired access. Alternatively, online forms may be encrypted so that only the intended recipients can readily translate the information.

Ensuring that your information is stored and transferred in secure ways is one of the keys to protecting your privacy. Fortunately, browser companies have realized the importance of data security; newer browsers are designed to indicate whether the accessed page allows encrypted transfers. The commonly used graphics are a key, which is broken if the page is insecure, and a lock -- locked is secure and unlocked is not secure. The graphic appears in the corner of the browser screen; clicking on the lock or the key will inform you of additional security information about the page. You should not input sensitive personal information about yourself (such as financial or medical data) on Web pages that are not secure.

6. Reject unnecessary cookies:

Cookies enable Web sites to store information about your visit on your own hard drive. Cookies inform site operators if you have visited the site and, if you have obtained a username and password, cookies remember that information for you. Many of the "personalized" search engines use cookies to deliver news topics that users select; sites often use these same preferences to target advertisement. Furthermore, cookies can be used to track you online and enable a creation of a profile without you realizing it. You can search your hard drive for a file with the word "cookie" in it (i.e., cookies.txt or MagicCookie) to view the cookies that have been attached to your computer. Newer browsers allow you to recognize sites that send you cookies and reject them outright by accessing the "Advanced" screen of the "Preferences" menu. In Internet Explorer, delete cookies by clicking on the "Delete Files" button in the "General" icon of "Tools"' "Internet Options" menu.

7. Use anonymous remailers:

Anonymity is essential to privacy and free speech. It protects whistle blowers and writers of controversial material; most simply, it may enable one to publish without a forwarding address. The e-mail technology creates problems for the right to anonymous communication since the sender of a message can be traced back through digital paths.

Created to address privacy risks and concerns, "anonymous remailers" presently allow you to send anonymous e-mail messages. One very good remailer was created as a joint project of the George Mason Society and the Global Internet Liberty Campaign and is available on the Web at Code:http://www.gilc.org/speech/anonymous/remailer.html

8. Keep your e-mail private, use encryption!:

E-mail is not as secure a medium as many believe.

E-mail can be easily rerouted and read by unintended third parties; messages are often saved for indefinite periods of time. Presently, there exist technologies that allow you to encrypt your messages in order to protect their privacy. Some e-mail programs (i.e., Internet Explorer Outlook and Netscape Messenger) have encryption. Pretty Good Privacy (PGP), a popular encryption software, is free for non-commercial use.

Read more on PGP and download the encryption software at Code:http://web.mit.edu/network/pgp.html

9. Use anonymizers while browsing:

From the moment you type in a Web address, a log is kept with information about your visit.

Every day, most of us walk down the street without being recognized or tracked. While anonymity is often taken for granted in the physical world, such luxury is not available online. Tools that strip out user information, thus preserving anonymity, have been created; a few are readily available on the net. Visit Code:http://www.freedom.netand Code:http://www.anonymizer.com.
10. Opt-out of third party information sharing:

Many online companies provide you with the option to get off (or "opt-out") the lists that share your information. Some companies enable users to easily opt out -- users are often able to do so online. A number of companies go a step further and ask your permission (opt-in) before sharing personal information that they have collected. Often, however, companies make opting out difficult or virtually impossible: addresses are buried, one cannot opt-out online, etc. CDT has created Operation Opt-Out to help you control how your personal data is collected and distributed.

Extra Tip: use common sense

Reading our Top Ten list, as well as encountering multiple news stories that portray Web companies as charlatans or worse, can instill paranoia even in the most fearless Web user. You must realize, however, that people in cyberspace are the same people you encounter every day in the physical reality: your neighbors, your colleagues. Using many of the same behavior patterns that you use in the offline environment will take you a long way. Ask yourself a set of familiar questions when you are online: Would you give your credit card number to a street vendor? Would you transact with a well-established, trusted firm? How much information does the newspaper realistically need to process a subscription? Will you be subjected to a ton of unsolicited mail if you disclose your physical or e-mail address?

Use common sense, ask questions and seek out resources. The Internet is a new medium, as was the telephone more than a century ago. If used wisely, it can connect you to a world of people, ideas and information.

IE6/IE7: How to Download More Than Two Files at Once

IE6/IE7: How to Download More Than Two

In IE, by default, a user can only download two files at once. Here's how to increase this.

Because of some silly standards, IE limits the number of files that can be downloaded at once to two. In the world of broadband, this is just not enough. Here's how to increase it.

This requires editing the registry. Backup your system beforehand.

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Enter regedit into the textbox and click OK
4. In regedit go to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings

5. Click the Edit Menu
6. Select New and DWORD value
7. Name your selection MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server and hit ENTER
8. Double click MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server
9. When the box opens change the value to a.
10. Click the Edit Menu again
11. Select New and DWORD value
12. Name your selection MaxConnectionsPerServerand hit ENTER
8. Double click MaxConnectionsPerServer
9. When the box opens change the value to a.
10. Quit regedit

How to increase your BitTorrent Speeds

How to increase your BitTorrent Speeds

although it doesn't really do much of a difference for me because it all depends on how many seeders/leechers are uploading, but here's how it works:

- an internet connection, must be high speed of course...
- Windows XP Professional or Windows 2003

**note** this trick will increase your bandwidth usage, if your Internet Service Provider (ISP) limits your bandwidth, I suggest that you don't do this trick...
This part will increase your bandwidth usage by 20% meaning, you will get a faster internet speed (or your full speed...).

1.press start
2.press run
3.type gpedit.msc
4.on the right hand side, press computer configuration
5.press administrative templates
6.press network
7.press QoS Packet Scheduler
8.press Limit reservable bandwidth
9.now..you will see it being set default as "not configured". You will now press "enable". Change the value from 20% to 0%. Pressing "disable" will result nothing.
10. press apply

now, a huge amount of people have been complaining over these past years that Windows XP Service Pack 2 has slowed their internet down. Service Pack 2 limits only 10 simultaneously incomplete outbound TCP connections, Service Pack 1 on the other hand, allows about 16777214 connections (or somewhere near there). The reason why Microsoft has limited to 10 connections only is to "prevent" worms/viruses from infecting your computer faster, this will therefore slow down your downloading speeds as well.

1.go download http://www.lvllord.de/download.php?u...tch223d-en.zip
2.if you have a crappy antivirus like Norton, or McAfee or AVG, changing it to 50 should be enough....
if you have good antivirus like NOD32, then you can freely change to 16777214 (that's what im using right now...)
3.If Windows pops up asking you to insert a Windows XP SP2 CD, press ignore.

although this won't have a significant improvement, but it's just changing the limits. And use uTorrent.

If you're thinking why you can't download using BitTorrent even if you have high speed, it's because your ISP is throttling your internet connection. I suggest you using uTorrent, and then on options---->preferences----->Bittorrent---->under protocol enryption, enable that, and you should see a higher speed than you have before...
**USE THIS OPTION ONLY IF YOU SEE SPEEDS OF 100kb/s DROPPING DOWN TO A MERE 5-10KB/S INSTANTLY**

About IP

About IP

Sometimes on the internet you get an IP address but have no idea who it is. Whether it be an IP address which is being blocked by your firewall or you are doing a lookup to see who is spamming you, you can do a quick lookup of an IP address using a tool which is already on your PC.

In Windows 2000/XP, go to Start > Run and type in "command" and press enter. At the command prompt, enter "nslookup xx.xx.xx.xx" (where the xx stuff is the IP address). The output will be first some info about your ISP, then it will give you the IP address you entered and the domain it is resolving to. This can help you get some meaning behind those cryptic numbers.

HOWTO: Save nearly any multimedia file in your web browser to your hard drive

HOWTO: Save nearly any multimedia file in your web browser to your hard drive

Ever wanted to save that video or flash animation that you found on the web to your hard drive? Well, if you’re using Mozilla Firefox, it’s actually pretty easy.

This tutorial will not work with anything streamed or encapsulated (e.g., streaming videos and quicktime trailers like on trailers.apple.com). Capturing those is beyond the scope of this howto

Also, remember to respect other’s intellectual property: Saving a copy to your hard drive is fair use; taking that and publishing it on your own website is probably not.

get on with the tutorial:
  1. Open the page that contains what you want to save

Here we have a movie on NewGrounds that Andrew Kepple made. It’s a flash movie, so it’s embedded on the webpage. There’s no link to the file that I would normally be able to right-click and save from.
  2. Right-click the page anywhere except the video and choose View Page Info

This will open the Page Info window. Tools > Page Info will do the same thing.
  3. From the Page Info window, go to the Media Tab
On this tab is a list of all the embedded resources on the page, including images, ads, and convienently, Flash animations and other video files.
  4. From the Media list, find your resource and click it
If you know what you’re after is a video, try looking at filename extensions for AVI, WMV, MOV, DIVX, and such. Flash animations end in SWF, and music files are usually MP3.
Chances are that what you’re after is quite large, so you could just go through each item in the list looking at the Size field below, and when you find one that’s bigger than the rest, that’ll probably be your file.
You could also check the resource’s MIME type, which might have the word flash, video, movie, sound or the like in it, tipping you off.
  5. Click the Save As... button
Then save your resource like any other file. Remember where it is.

Windows Installer Service Could Not Be Accessed

Windows Installer Service Could Not Be Accessed

Do you ever try to install a program, and you get this message ?

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.
1: Reregister the Windows Installer

To reregister the Windows Installer, verify the location of the Msiexec.exe file on your hard disk and in the Windows Registry, and then reregister the Windows Installer. To do this, follow these steps.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps. 1.Determine the location of the Msiexec.exe file on your hard disk. To do this, follow these steps: a. Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\system32, and then click OK.

Note This step will open the folder where the Msiexec.exe file is located.b. Make a note of the location of the Msiexec.exe file. The location of the Msiexec.exe file will be a combination of the value in the Address text box and the Msiexec.exe file name itself.

For example if the Address text box contains a value of C:\Windows\system32, the location of the Msiexec.exe file will be C:\Windows\system32\Msiexec.exe.2.Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

Make sure that the location of the Msiexec.exe file in Registry Editor is correct. To do this, follow these steps: a. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open text box, and then click OK. b. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, expand SYSTEM, expand CurrentControlSet, expand Services, and then click MSIServer. c. In the right pane, right-click ImagePath, and then click Modify. d. In the Value data text box, type the location of the Msiexec.exe file that you determined in step 1, followed by the value of /V, and then click OK.

For example, if the location of the Msiexec.exe file is C:\Windows\system32\Msiexec.exe, type the following text in the Value data text box: C:\WINDOWS\System32\msiexec.exe /V
e. Click OK to close the Edit String dialog box. f. Click the File menu, and then click Exit to close Registry Editor. 3.Start your computer in safe mode, and then register the Msiexec.exe file. To do this, follow these steps: a. Click Start, and then click Turn off computer or Shut Down. b. Select the Restart option, and then click OK, or click Restart. c. Press F8 before the Windows splash screen appears. d. On the Windows Advanced Option menu, use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode option, and then press ENTER. e. If you use a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the appropriate operating system from the list that is displayed, and then press ENTER. f. Log on to the computer. g. Click Start, click Run, type msiexec /regserver in the Open text box, and then click OK.

Note For 64-bit operating systems, you also have to reregister the 64-bit MSI installer. To do this, click Start, click Run, type %windir%\Syswow64\Msiexec /regserver in the Open text box, and then click OK.

On 64-bit editions of the Windows operating system, 32-bit binaries are located in %systemroot%\SysWow64 folder. The 64-bit binaries are located in the %systemroot%\System32 folder.h. Click Start, and then click Turn off computer or Shut Down. i. Select the Restart option, and then click OK, or click Restart. If the issue persists, and you still receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section, follow the steps in Method 2.
Method 2: Reinstall the Windows Installer

To reinstall the Windows Installer, rename the damaged Windows Installer files, and then reinstall the Windows Installer. To do this, follow these steps:1.Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open text box, and then click OK.2.Type cd %windir%\system32, and then press ENTER.3.Type attrib -r -s -h dllcache, and then press ENTER.4.Type ren msi.dll msi.old, and then press ENTER.5.Type ren msiexec.exe msiexec.old, and then press ENTER.6.Type ren msihnd.dll msihnd.old, and then press ENTER.7.Type exit, and then press ENTER.8.At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER. 9.Click Start, and then click Turn off computer or Shut Down. 10.Select the Restart option, and then click OK, or click Restart. 11.Log on to the computer. 12.Download and install the latest version of the Windows Installer.
